John Kassel of Kassel McVey has been part of a working group of five lawyers representing patients who received serious infections after receiving orthopedic injections at University of South Carolina School of Medicine specialty clinics in 2012. As reported in The State, at least seven people suffered painful symptoms of mycobacteria that lingered for months after receiving the injections.
The patents have brought suit against the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) for information the Department has collected about the injections. The DHEC has refused to turn over the information to the legal group on a timely basis under the state’s freedom of information law.
