Kassel McVey’s dynamic partner Theile McVey has once again shown excellent leadership, as the South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ) has chosen her as their new President. Theile has previously served as the organization’s Secretary/ Treasurer, Vice President, and President-Elect, elected by other trial lawyers in the state.
The SCAJ is the state’s leading association for matters of legal fairness. Founded in 1957, it now has more than 1,200 members statewide. Among their regular activities is pursuing legislative means to improve people’s access to justice. The group’s mission is in line with Theile’s own. At Kassel McVey Law Firm, she has dedicated her work to help only plaintiffs in personal injury cases – even when faced with powerful opponents or complex challenges.
“It’s important for me to serve individuals who have been disadvantaged and those who feel that they have little chance for justice even though they deserve it,” Theile shares.
The lawyer’s practice areas include vehicle accidents, premises liability, product liability, nursing home negligence, and medical malpractice, and mesothelioma cases. She has obtained highly favorable results for Kassel McVey clients, such as a $38-million verdict and another $14-million verdict in mesothelioma cases. Most recently, she was among the attorneys who helped plaintiffs win in the asbestos case against Emerson Electric subsidiaries.
Theile graduated with honors from Columbia College in 1997 and received her law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 2000. She is now also a member of the American Association for Justice and the Richland County Bar Association. In the nearly-two decades that she has been practicing law, Theile has earned many accolades. She has been a South Carolina Super Lawyer since 2013 and has been named among the Midlands Legal Elite since 2011. In addition, she received the Gold Compleat Lawyer Award, the highest alumni honor given by the USC School of Law.
Theile may be taking on a new leadership role at the SCAJ, but she remains committed to her clients at Kassel McVey first and foremost. “This opportunity energizes me to do more for the people I can help,” she says.
